Developmental Editing

Developmental editing for every subgenre of fantasy and romance, plus poetry collections — from novellas to epic-length manuscripts, at price points built to fit an author’s budget. Structure, pacing, character arcs, worldbuilding, and collection architecture, edited by a genre author and qualified editor who gives hard notes with passion and care, all with the goal of preserving your unique author voice.

Authors should never have to worry about the cost of editing when most households are struggling to put food on the table. Every author deserves access to high-quality developmental feedback, and that is where I come in. From royalty shares and payment plans to low deposits and reasonable prices, I will work within your budget on a full developmental edit, which includes unlimited communication, a detailed style sheet, in-line comments, a comprehensive editorial letter, and a second round of revisions.

My qualifications & Experience

I bring a combination of advanced academic training, professional editorial experience, and years of work with developing writers to my developmental editing practice. I hold an MA in English and an MFA in Creative Writing with a focus on genre fiction, and I have completed doctoral-level research in genre fiction and poetry. I have also completed graduate-level editing coursework as part of an MS in Publishing program with Pace University.

I’m a published author with significant experience in novel structure, plotting, and long-form narrative development. That firsthand experience allows me to recognize potential developmental issues early, including pacing problems, weak story architecture, underdeveloped character arcs, inconsistent motivations, plot gaps, and structural choices that may create problems later in a manuscript. I understand not only how to diagnose these issues, but how to help writers address them without losing their voice, vision, or the emotional core of their work.

My editorial perspective is further shaped by seven combined years of experience judging writing competitions with Reedsy Prompts and NYC Midnight, where I evaluated fiction across genres and provided thoughtful, craft-focused feedback. I also teach creative writing at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, giving me extensive experience helping writers strengthen the developmental aspects of their writing.

In addition, I serve as an editor for multiple community college and university anthologies and newsletters, and have worked as a freelance editor for Conquest Publishing and Wild Ink Publishing. I am also a new developmental editor with Midnight Haus Publishing. Together, these experiences allow me to approach developmental editing from the perspectives of an editor, educator, researcher, reader, and working author, with particular strength in genre fiction and in helping authors understand how their craft choices achieve their vision.

My favorite part of the writing process is developmental editing. There is something deeply rewarding about helping a writer uncover the strongest version of their voice and story while protecting what makes it uniquely theirs. I would be honored to work with you and your manuscript!
